Calming The Nervous System.
Here are three calming and settling self-care practices for your own use to reduce stress and anxiety.
1. Center Point Relaxation: first focus on a point at the horizon (or straight in front of you), and then close your eyes and bring your awareness to the point at the middle of the brain. Breathe normally, watching the center point in your brain and/or the breath coming in and out at the tip of your nose.
2. Breath Meditation: inhale for four counts, hold for four counts, exhale all the way for seven counts, hold for four counts. Nice and slow, easy breathing.
3. Slow Motion Moving: when feeling speedy, nervous, frazzled, or anxious, slow down your movements into slow motion. Slowwww wayyyyy dowwwwn. Like moving under water in the ocean.
Try one or more of these anywhere (except while driving or operating heavy machinery). Great for desk and work breaks, walking, laying in bed, sitting reading, and before sleep.
